Aha Moments: Starting again after a break

Smadar Get In Touch

Hello, so I have been rather inactive over the last few months.  I haven’t posted much about my business on social media and I haven’t written a blog in ages.  I knew I needed to get back in the saddle and start again, but I found endless reasons why today wasn’t the day to do so.

Has this happened to you?  How often have you started something, then something got in the way of you continuing it, and then you procrastinate about picking it up again?  You feel guilty that you haven’t kept it up in the first place, you are embarrassed because you feel you ‘shouldn’t’ have stopped in the first place…and underneath all of that sits that fear – the fear of what might happen if you just start again.

Honestly?  I don’t know why it is so frightening, but I know it is.  Every time!  When I start an exercising routine and then I don’t do it for a while; when I start a marketing campaign for work and don’t follow it through; when I make a special effort with my family and then slip back into nagging Mum/ wife mode – with all of them, every time I slip back into old, bad habits, the fear of starting up again gets bigger and bigger.

But – and here comes the Aha Moment – not only am I not unique or special in dealing with the guilt, the fear, the doubts; other people don’t watch us closely enough to notice quite how long we have NOT done something.  They only notice us if we DO something that interests them, so nobody is going to spend enough time and energy on your life and your actions to actually wonder why they haven’t seen you do your thing – your marketing, your exercise, your … whatever your block might be.

So – just for today, give yourself the space to start doing something again that you gave up a while ago and that you have wanted to pick up again – and see what happens!  See how you feel, see if anybody notices or responds (and if they don’t, that’s okay too), see whether you wake up differently tomorrow, knowing you have taken that first step forward again.

That’s what I am doing here with my new Aha Moments themed blogs – something I have been meaning to do for ages and avoided until this week.

Let me know what your thing is and what you have done – share your experiences with me and let’s support each other getting back to doing things that matter to us – Get in touch!
